About the Experience
Description
Outdoor Education & Leadership (OEL) Adventure Trips at Bucknell offers unique outdoor recreational opportunities, designed and lead by students for students. The primary goals of the Adventure Trips program is to promote environmental awareness and give the Bucknell community the opportunity to explore the natural habitat of Central Pennsylvania and beyond. Adventure Trips typically consist of weekly off campus trips with a variety of activities, including hiking, camping, rock climbing, kayaking, mountain biking and more, as well as extended trips during semester breaks.
The Adventure Trips Student Manager will work alongside one or multiple peer Adventure Trips Student Manager(s) to design trip experiences each semester, assist in the hiring, training, and ongoing mentorship of Adventure Trips student trip leaders, and promote an inclusive community in this integral part of OEL. This position reports to the Director, Associate Director and Assistant Director of OEL.
We are in search of motivated students, both eligible and not-eligible for work study, who are willing to begin work this spring semester and continue on our team for every semester during their time at Bucknell.
Duties
As a staff member of the Bucknell Outdoor Education and Leadership (OEL) team, the Adventure Trips Student Manager is first and foremost expected to foster a positive and engaging environment for all individuals and hold a demonstrated commitment to promoting diversity, equity, inclusion and social justice. Adventure Trips Student Manager job responsibilities are as follows:
-Serve as a liaison to other branches of OEL (Buckwild, Rental Center/Bison Bikes, Challenge Course and Climbing Wall) for programming collaboration and committee work
-Attend weekly meetings with Co-Manager and Directors of OEL
-Attend monthly OEL manager meetings
-Work closely with Buckwild Student Managers to share resources and workload when necessary
-Collaborate with Co-Manager to create semester trip schedule-- including the intake of feedback and trip recommendations from Adventure Trips Trip Leaders
-Assist with back end operating documents and preparation of logistics for trips
-Track participation and completion of required duties by trip leaders after each trip
-Assist in the recruitment, hiring, training and ongoing mentorship of trip leaders
-Designate trip leaders for semester trips
-Assist in the organization of trip leader training and certification credentials
-Act as primary point of communication for trip leaders in regard to trip logistics and planning
-Collaborate with OEL Marketing Student Managers and other offices on campus as necessary to organize and promote trips, on-campus events and speakers
-Assist with other OEL duties and committees as needed
Minimum Qualifications
-Must be a 1st-3rd year student to apply
-Demonstrated enthusiasm for outdoor recreation and education
-Excellent written and oral communicator
-Must be available to work an average of 10-20 hours per week during the regular academic year
Work Hours
10-20 hours per week during the fall and spring semesters, with possible opportunities for optional summer hours. Hours may vary throughout the semester.
Compensation
$12.00/hour
