About the Experience

Description

The OEL Bison Bikes program is a unique service offered to all students of Bucknell University. Each semester, approximately 100 bikes are rented by students to use for the entire semester. A reserve of additional bikes are kept available at the OEL Rental Center for short term rentals and Outing Club trips.

The Bison Bikes Student Manager will be an important team member in promoting, organizing, and facilitating the operations of Bison Bikes. This person will be responsible for intaking bike rental requests, communicating with bike recipients, issuing bikes, performing basic bike repairs and tune ups, and receiving bikes at the end of each semester. This position reports to the Director and Assistant Director of OEL.

We are in search of motivated students, both eligible and not-eligible for work study, who are willing to begin work this fall semester and continue on our team for every semester during their time at Bucknell.

Duties

As a staff member of the Bucknell Outdoor Education and Leadership (OEL) team, the Bison Bikes Student Manager is first and foremost expected to foster a positive and engaging environment for all individuals and hold a demonstrated commitment to promoting diversity, equity, inclusion and social justice. Bison Bikes Student Manager job responsibilities are as follows:

-Manager will keep track of Bison Bike requests/reservations and clearly communicate with these recipients

-Manager will act as a liaison to other branches of OEL (Outing Club, Buckwild, Challenge Course, Rental Center, Climbing Wall) for programming collaboration and committee work

-Manager will regularly collaborate with the Rental Center Student Managers, who’s program shares this space

-Manager will be responsible for issuing Bison Bikes at the beginning of each semester, with assistance from Rental Center Staff as needed

-Manager will be responsible for receiving Bison Bikes at the end of each semester, with assistance from Rental Center Staff as needed

-Manager will handle all first layer communication from Bison Bikes recipients, including requests, questions, issues, etc.

-Manager will assist in ongoing basic maintenance of Bison Bikes

-Manager will keep track of and communicate needs for larger bike repairs to the Director of OEL

-Manager will be responsible for maintaining a clean and safe working space

-Manager will conduct routine inventory and equipment inspections

-Manager will work closely with Director and Assistant Director of OEL to make necessary equipment purchases

-Manager will attend monthly OEL manager meetings

-Manager will work to provide excellent customer service

-Manager will assist with designated related tasks as needed

Minimum Qualifications

-Must be a student of Bucknell University, at the Undergraduate or Graduate level

-Possess strong organizational and time management skills

-Excellent interpersonal skills

-Excellent written and oral communication skills

-Maintain a 2.0 GPA for Undergraduate and 3.0 for Graduate students

-Experience with basic bike maintenance is preferred, but will be taught in this position

Work Hours

6-10 hours per week during the Fall and Spring Semesters. Hours may vary throughout the semester.

Compensation

$12.00/hour
