About the Experience

Description

The OEL Rental Center and Basecamp is Bucknell University’s one stop shop to rent all kinds of outdoor recreation equipment, from tents to boats to cross-country skis or river tubes. The Rental Center space also acts as the “Basecamp” for OEL trip operations, and is where trips are planned, start and end.

The Rental Center Student Manager will be an important team member in promoting, organizing, and facilitating the operations of the rental center. This person will play a critical role in managing this OEL community space and equipment. This position reports to the Director and Assistant Director of OEL.

We are in search of motivated students, both eligible and not-eligible for work study, who are willing to begin work this spring semester and continue on our team for every semester during their time at Bucknell.

Duties

As a staff member of the Bucknell Outdoor Education and Leadership (OEL) team, the Rental Center Student Manager is first and foremost expected to foster a positive and engaging environment for all individuals and hold a demonstrated commitment to promoting diversity, equity, inclusion and social justice. Rental Center Student Manager job responsibilities are as follows:

-Manager will assist in the hiring, supervision and mentorship of Rental Center Staff

-Manager will act as a liaison to other branches of OEL (Outing Club, Buckwild, Challenge Course, Bison Bikes, Climbing Wall) for programming collaboration and committee work

-Manager will regularly collaborate with the Bison Bikes Student Manager, who’s program shares this space

-Manager will assist in ongoing maintenance of rental center equipment inventory

-Manager will assist in training of new hire Rental Center Staff

-Manager will be responsible for tracking Rental Center Staff hours

-Manager will be responsible for maintaining cleanliness and professionalism at the rental center

-Manager will conduct routine inventory and equipment inspections

-Manager will work closely with Director and Assistant Director of OEL to make necessary equipment purchases

-Manager will attend monthly OEL manager meetings

-Manager will work to provide excellent customer service

-Manager will assist with designated related tasks as needed

Minimum Qualifications

-Must be a student of Bucknell University, at the Undergraduate or Graduate level

-Possess strong organizational and time management skills

-Excellent interpersonal skills

-Excellent written and oral communication skills

-Maintain a 2.0 GPA for Undergraduate and 3.0 for Graduate students

-Experience working in an outdoor rental center is preferred, but not required

Work Hours

6-10 hours per week during the Fall and Spring Semesters, with possible opportunities for optional Summer hours. Hours may vary throughout the semester.

Compensation

$11.00/hour
