Service Description
OVERVIEW: The Wilderness Advanced First Aid (WAFA) course makes use of lecture and practical-based learning both in and outside of the classroom, and is geared towards students who will be working, guiding, or recreating in remote locations with others. The concepts and skills reviewed in this course will prepare you to prevent, identify, and stabilize a diverse range of injuries and illnesses associated with recreation in remote places where adaptations to harsh environments, limited access to resources and communication, and personal/group safety must be made. TOPICS: Topics covered in this course include an in depth overview and practice of patient assessment, chest & lung emergencies, bleeding & wound care, CPR & AED use, shock, spine & head injuries, musculoskeletal injuries, environmental emergencies, abdominal illnesses & injuries, allergies & anaphylaxis, diabetes and emergency & evacuation plans. Inclusion of additional topics and descriptions beyond what is listed can be discussed and agreed on upon request. SCHEDULE: Aug 6: 8:00am-5:00pm Aug 7: 8:00am-5:00pm Aug 8: 8:00am-5:00pm Aug 9: 8:00am-5:00pm *A 1 hour lunch break is provided each day of this course.
