Description

The BuckWild Pre-Orientation Program is managed through the office of Outdoor Education & Leadership (OEL) at Bucknell. For many incoming first year students, BuckWild is their first introduction to life at Bucknell and outdoor recreation. This pre-orientation currently serves 100-150 first year students each year and is made possible through the dedication of approximately 30 student BuckWild Leaders, 2-4 BuckWild Student Managers, and multiple student staff.

BuckWild Student Managers will be important team members in promoting, organizing, and facilitating BuckWild and its various trips. This position reports to the Director and Assistant Directors of OEL.

We are in search of motivated students, both eligible and not-eligible for work study, who are willing to begin work this spring semester and continue on our team for every semester during their time at Bucknell.

Duties

As a staff member of the Bucknell Outdoor Education and Leadership (OEL) team, the BuckWild Student Manager is first and foremost expected to foster a positive and engaging environment for all individuals and hold a demonstrated commitment to promoting diversity, equity, inclusion and social justice. BuckWild Student Manager job responsibilities are as follows:

-Manager will assist in the hiring, supervision and mentorship of BuckWild Leaders

-Manager will act as a liaison to other branches of OEL (Outing Club, Challenge Course, Rental Center/Bison Bikes, Climbing Wall) for programming collaboration and committee work

-Manager will assist in BuckWild trip planning, including booking of various campsites, venders, and other support-related logistics

-Manager will assist in ongoing BuckWild Leader trainings throughout the regular academic year and during the week prior to BuckWild

-Manager will work closely with Director and Assistant Directors of OEL to make necessary purchases related to BuckWild

-Manager will attend monthly OEL manager meetings

-Manager will assist with designated related tasks as needed

Minimum Qualifications

-Must be available to work during BuckWild 2023 Prep Week (Aug. 5-10, 2023) and the program itself (Aug. 11-15, 2023)

-Demonstrated enthusiasm for outdoor education and the first year student experience

-Possess strong organizational and time management skills

-Excellent interpersonal skills

-Excellent written and oral communication skills

-Maintain a 2.0 GPA for Undergraduate and 3.0 for Graduate students

-Past experience as a BuckWild leader or participant preferred, but not required

Work Hours

6-10 hours per week during the Fall and Spring Semesters, with possible opportunities for optional Summer hours. This position does require being on campus and available to work during the BuckWild Pre-Orientation. Hours may vary throughout the semester.

Compensation

$12.00/hour
