About the Experience

Description

The CLIMBucknell Challenge Course is located at the Cowan Forrest Brown Conference Center and overseen by Outdoor Education & Leadership (OEL). This extensive challenge course features both low and high elements, a climbing tower and zip line. The challenge course is an interactive and educational space designed to teach students, faculty, staff and outside groups skills including leadership, teamwork, group dynamics, risk assessment, and personal reflection. Goals of the program include enhancing life skills through participation in challenging and fun educational activities by problem solving and team development.

The Challenge Course Student Manager will be an important team member in promoting, organizing, and facilitating the challenge course and its various programs. This position reports to the Director and Assistant Director of OEL.

We are in search of motivated students, both eligible and not-eligible for work study, who are willing to begin work this spring semester and continue on our team for every semester during their time at Bucknell.

TRAINING: The 40 hour CLIMBucknell Facilitator Training will take place over Fall Break on October 7-11, 2022. Costs associated with this training are covered. Lodging and meals will be provided. This training is mandatory for all facilitators during the 2022/2023 academic year. Upon successful completion of training, opportunities for work become available starting as early as October 12.

Duties

As a staff member of the Bucknell Outdoor Education and Leadership (OEL) team, the Challenge Course Student Manager is first and foremost expected to foster a positive and engaging environment for all individuals and hold a demonstrated commitment to promoting diversity, equity, inclusion and social justice. Challenge Course Student Manager job responsibilities are as follows:

-Manager will assist in the hiring, supervision and mentorship of Challenge Course Facilitators

-Manager will act as a liaison to other branches of OEL (Outing Club, Buckwild, Rental Center/Bison Bikes, Climbing Wall) for programming collaboration and committee work

-Manager will assist in ongoing maintenance of challenge course equipment inventory

-Manager will assist in training of new hire Facilitators and Lead Facilitators

-Manager will be responsible for tracking Facilitator staff hours

-Manager will assist Assistant Director as needed with tracking participant groups and billing after each program

-Manager will be responsible for maintaining cleanliness and professionalism during challenge course programs

-Manager will conduct semester inventory and equipment inspections

-Manager will work closely with Director and Assistant Director of OEL to make necessary equipment purchases

-Manager will attend monthly OEL manager meetings

-Manager will work to provide excellent customer service

-Manager will develop a strong understanding of curriculum design in regard to using the challenge course and how to be outcome driven for guests

-Manager will assist with designated related tasks as needed

Minimum Qualifications

-Strong desire to help participants and colleagues seek and learn from a variety of challenges

-Be a student of Bucknell University, at the Undergraduate or Graduate level

-Possess strong organizational and time management skills

-Excellent interpersonal skills

-Excellent written and oral communication skills

-Maintain a 2.0 GPA for Undergraduate and 3.0 for Graduate students

-Current First Aid and CPR certifications or ability to obtain within 30 days of employment

-Experience in the Challenge course high ropes programming preferred

-Past facilitation experience of team building and low ropes initiatives preferred

Work Hours

6-10 hours per week during the Fall and Spring Semesters, with possible opportunities for optional Summer hours. Hours may vary throughout the semester.

Compensation

$12.00/hour
